OCCUPY.

We all know how hard we are struggling. Not just here in the US, but everywhere. And most of us feel the need to want to DO something, but we’re either complacent or afraid to speak our minds. But the more we wait, the more we just “hope” things will get better, the more we try to keep ourselves ignorant to these problems, the severity of our struggles all around the globe and in our own communities will grow until we have absolutely nothing left.

Then what?

And a lot of us may think it’s “too radical” and “too crazy” to stand up to things like this. But look at all our predecessors who were “crazy” enough to STAND UP for THE PEOPLE and earned us civil rights, women’s rights, etc. Where would we all be without their “radicalness”? For colored folks like me, and as a woman, I probably would still be sitting at the other side of restaurant, wouldn’t have gone to school, or wouldn’t have any kind of job opportunities AT ALL. So if being progressive is too radical, then please put me in my place and tell me that I don’t belong here and that all that work they did was a complete waste of time.

And what I’ve learned from my kasamas is that it’s more than putting band-aid’s on problems. Yes, there are people who are living in horrendous conditions, don’t have enough resources to live a normal life, etc…and we all try our best to do what we can to donate to these things. That’s great. But do we ever think about WHY folks don’t have shoes, or water, or electricity? There’s a bigger problem underneath it all and giving our last dollar to the cause is JUST a temporary fix. Let’s come together, expose the CAUSE of why this is all happening to begin with, organize, and FIX IT….as one unit, as the people. We have the power to do so if we do this together.

There’s a reason why there’s a 99% vs. the 1%. THERE IS A REASON. This capitalist, imperialistic, elitist, greedy system. Ya know, I have a lot of friends who have gone to school and have taken out crazy loans JUST to make their dreams a reality, and can’t find an outlet for all that education they spent thousands of dollars on. I have friends who can’t GO to school cuz it’s TOO EXPENSIVE. I see friends and family losing their jobs left and right. I see STRUGGLE. And as the 1% sit pretty, we are figuring out ways just to make ends meet.

I saw another video with a man talking about how the government expects us to be responsible with our money and to balance our checkbook, but what’s funny is that they can’t do that themselves. Ain’t that something?

And as you can see in the video, it’s funny how our leaders are SO supportive of revolutions outside the US, but when it starts to form here…that’s what happens.

But we must COME TOGETHER as one family to stick up for each other and what is right. Cuz if we don’t, we’re just going to keep helping those oppressing us with digging our communities into a deeper hole.

This has been a really lengthy blog and pretty jumbled, but man, I really hope you guys take what’s happening into consideration. We need to stand up, and trust, I’ll be there with you if you do.

I’ll be at Occupy OC and LA on October 15th. I’m not moving. And we can stand together.

The Shining Sons are an up-and-coming group from the Eastside of Long Beach. Intellect and Jedi are twin brothers who have turned their lives around from gang banging through learning about people’s struggles in the U.S. and back home in the Philippines. Now they spread awareness through hip-hop and community organizing with Anakbayan LA, a Filipino youth & student organization to create social change in communities worldwide.

ABOUT JAG ART:
Jose Antonio Gomez discovered his love for music and art while attending Narbonne High School. He would incorporate the two by drawing pictures of the then current rock stars of the day. He tried his hand at the guitar but his talent laid elsewhere.After high School Jose joined the United State Marine Corps. He was deployed to Saudi Arabia, where he served his country as part of Desert Storm.After the war, Jose renewed his interest in Art, drawing many pictures that are shown in Galleries around California.

Octavio Vargas from Guadalajara, Jalisco Mexico. Has been actively creating and exhibiting art in the greater Los Angeles area, Tijuana and Guadalara Mexico! Ocho Vargas attended LBCC where he developed his art skills. He is specially excellent at oil portraits among other paintings which include commission art and Lucha Libre art. In fact, you can see his oil painting of BLUE DEMON JR in the gallery of the legend himself in Guadalajara Mexico.
